Also wer demnächst einen Istanbul-Trip machen möchte, ZEUGMA HOTEL!

I honestly can't say enough good things about this hotel! A friend and I stayed here together after our original accommodation fell through and we were scrambling at the very last minute. I called at about 10 in the morning - while in line to see Sultanahmet - to see if there were rooms available for that night and the next. I spoke with Melih, who was polite, charming, and speaks impeccable English. When we arrived to check the place out and pay for our booking (about 15 minutes later - you can't beat the location!), we learned that they only had a double bed available, rather than singles - no problem at all on such short notice. The rate was very reasonable: I had called with knowledge of the rates as posted on and, and the hotel matched that price. The room was spotlessly clean and well-appointed, with a nice, clean, and new-looking bathroom. We requested a room at the back of the hotel and had a tiny "sea view" between the rooftops, which was lovely. The room was very quiet and cool (due to air conditioning and keeping the blinds closed during the day), the bed was comfortable, and we had no problems sleeping. There were lots of extra comforters in the cupboard, although I would have liked a second one of the lightweight blankets on the bed. We were friends travelling; if we were a couple who wanted to sleep close together, one would probably have been sufficient. I have noticed that this is relatively common in Turkish hotels: if you want extra blankets or towels, just ask the front desk, as they will usually have just one small blanket on the bed and one big towel + one hand towel per guest. Breakfast was extensive and quite nice, with lots of fresh fruit, cheese, etc. - basically, typical Turkish-style breakfast buffet. The breakfast room was extremely hot (we had very high temperatures that day), but there was a lady in the room refreshing things to ensure that they didn't sit out for too long. There are security cameras on every floor and someone at the front desk 24 hours a day. The door lock put me off a little at first (it's the push-button-on-doorknob type) but there is a deadbolt for when you are inside the room and a safe at the front desk. All of our encounters with hotel staff were fantastic: the previously-mentioned Melih, a guy named Murat, and another guy whose name I can't remember (the overnight front desk guy), plus the very sweet lady in the breakfast room. All but the latter also speak English very well, and everyone was extremely helpful.

This little hotel is an oasis. After 11hrs on a plane, then 5 hrs of sightseeing on our 1 day layover, we were exhausted. It was so nice to be greeted with hospitality, given the WiFi password (worked great in our room, walk into a cool air conditioned room, and then take the nicest hot shower imaginable. We were extremely pleased. Spacious room. Bed a little firm and the blanket not nice. But was overall a wonderful experienced and would stay here again. You cannot beat the location, especially for a short layover. Thank you Zeguema!

Some may the bathroom (particularly the toilet, which is very close to both the wall and the shower) too small for comfort, and it would be worth asking about rooms with other layouts. We were fine as two smallish women, but it's probably worth mentioning. Breakfast was extensive and quite nice, with lots of fresh fruit, cheese, etc. - basically, typical Turkish-style breakfast buffet. We enquired at the travel agent around the corner (which is the service that the hotel uses) and got a one-way airport trip for my friend for 15 lira. If you want the convenience of booking through the hotel then by all means go ahead, but this might be a good thing to know if you are on a budget.

Pros: - close to major attractions (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Underground Cistern, Arasta Bazaar) and the Sultanahmet tram stop - free one way airport shuttle included with 3 day stay - located on a street lined with small shops and restaurants (try Albura Kathisma down the street) - excellent customer service via email before my trip and on site. Mel is cute and funny and Arun (sp?) went beyond the call of duty by lending me his Istanbulkart for a couple of days - room was clean, attractive, and a good size, with a large wardrobe - amenities include a rain head shower, good hair dryer, bath products, slippers - the top floor breakfast room features large windows and a home style ambiance; breakfast was basic but filling Cons: - my room had a balcony facing the street but no chair to sit on - street can be noisy in the late evening for light sleepers - no lift for those who may require one, but staff would probably help with luggage upon request

Upon arrival we were picked up from the airport by a shuttle-service that was included in the price of the hotel (one way). This small hotel was situated in a prime location in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. Walking distance from most historical sights by a nice street full of restaurants and little shops, not far from the sea either. Service was EXCELLENT! One day the receptionist even gave us his own tram ticket for us to borrow since we hadn't had a chance to buy one yet. Service couldn't have been any better. The room was not big, but for the price was very nice and always clean – no complaints there either. Breakfast was served on the roof-top terrace which was very nice. A friendly woman took very good care of all the guests eating there – maybe some variety would have been nice with the breakfast since we stayed for a week. I can definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Istanbul. I wouldn't hesitate going there again during my next visit. If I were traveling with small kids though I might look for a hotel with bigger rooms. One more thing I noticed: Hotel Zeugma doesn't get the hot noon sun that the hotels opposite from it get which is really good as it doesn't get too hot inside.

Really nice stay in this hotel. Room was a lovely size, bathroom quite small but absolutely fine for 3 nights and the shower was a nice size. Our room had a (small) balcony which overlooked the street and wasn't very noisy. The breakfast was tasty, and a good selection and variety. We always made sure we filled up before going out for the day and it usually saw us through until dinner. The lobby staff were super friendly and helpful, offering us advice on where to go and what to see. Perfect location very close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, as well as Topkapi Palace and less than 5 mins from the Metro which is easy and cheap to use. Great stay - would recommend Zeugma to everyone.

Zeugma Hotel treated us very well during our one week stay in Istanbul. The hotel lobby was very clean and the room was clean as well. The bathroom was on the small side but we had no issues with it. The daily breakfast was always well stocked and saved us a lot of money vs eating outside. The hotel is located on a street with at least a dozen restaurants and other hotels. It is literally a 5 minute walk to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, and Topkapi Palace. We felt very safe as this was the tourist area, even during the May Day demonstrations on May 1st. When my outlet converter didn't fit due to its shape, the desk manager happily gave us a brand new, still in package, converter. They were very helpful with any questions we had, were able to make reservations for us, and provided to and from transportation from the airport. We had zero complaints and enjoyed our stay.

The staff at the hotel are all very helpful and friendly, nothing seems to much trouble. We loved the bedroom even though a bit small, it was fine, lovely decor and very clean, fresh towels every day. Breakfast was typical turkish, fine, plus cereal that was a bit soggy when we were there, and not in a sealed container, so i mentioned this at reception, and they were happy for my comments. and hopefully this small problem will be resolved in the future, the next day the cereal was fresher, but still not in a container. we would love to go back to this hotel, asap fab.

Hotel is literally around the corner from major attractions such as the Blue Mosque, Arasta Bazar, and Hagia Sophia. The area around the hotel is a bit touristy with a lot of over priced restaurants, but you can easily find other options in the downtown area with the tram station very close. Room was very clean and nicely decorated and towels get changed every day. We found a second home and perfect place to stay!

Shower was OK, always with good pressure and hot water. Air conditioning was working well. The location was perfect for tourism, like others said, very close to the Topkapi palace, Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. There were plenty of restaurants and pubs on the main street and some small markets (but prices were not so cheap compared to other zones of Istanbul). Our window was not on the main street, so no problems with sleeping. The guys at the reception (Mehmet, Aziz and Kemal) spoke good English and were really nice and friendly, and helped us for all our stay there, from airport transfers to the organization of some of our sightseeing. Unfortunately our stay was during 2013 protests, but they keeped us informed on what was going on there and where we could and we could not go. WiFi was free, good both in the room and in the Lobby. All together, price was extremely good for the location and for the hospitality we had there. We would highly recommend this place. Small drawbacks: the hotel was not barrier-free and hadn't an elevator; breakfast buffet was good and fine for us, but I would say it was quite moderate. Feedback to the Hotel: Go on in this way! We hope to come back to Istanbul again!

We just spent a week at the Hotel Zeugma, and the location -- for exploring the highlights of the Sultanahmet zone -- is just great. It also is close to the Sultanhament tram stop for the T1 line, which we used almost every day. We had one of the two rooms on the top floor, a four-flight walk-up (no elevator), but the breakfast room is on that floor anyway, so what the heck. Besides, all the other rooms either had a "view" onto the street or no view at all (someone else's wall). If you want the view of the Marmara Sea shown in my pic, ask for it when you book. There is even a bathtub in that room; so good after a long flight to just soak for a bit! The street itself is lined with small tourist hotels, outdoor cafes and shops. Day and night, the street is lively and the area is totally safe. A short walk away is a bazaar and you should NOT miss the "Tile Museum," which really is an archaeological site of some importance. The vendors can be pushy in this part of town, but they are that way all over Istanbul. You just have to take it in stride. There were a couple of things not working properly in our room when we arrived, but when we brought these to the attention of Zeugma management, they were fixed in a flash. The desk guy was helpful with maps and suggestions, and there is a computer in the mini-lounge free for guest use. This was great for us because we did not bring our laptop along. It is easy enough to get to the Zeugma upon arriving at Ataturk Airport, if you aren't dragging around those mega-suitcases. There is only one Metro line into town, the M1A, so you can't go wrong. Transfer at the Zeytinburnu Station (recorded voice announces each stop, plus they have good signage) to the T1 line and get off at the Sultanhamet stop. It is about a quarter mile walk from there to the Zeugma. The streets are cobbled in spots, but our wheeled carry-ons managed just fine. If you are staying at least a week, the Zeugma will send an airport van to pick you up -- for free. I would recommend the Hotel Zeugma to anyone who doesn't need five-star accommodation and is looking for clean place with a neighborhood feel and a good price.

The staff was very helpful, and we really liked the Zeugma, but do have some reservations about the noise levels at night. The Zeugma is perfectly located for exploring the tourist hot spots of Istanbul, it’s about a 7 or 8 minute walk up to the Blue Mosque. The street it is on is very lively with restaurants and bars, so there are lots to do there. The breakfast is adequate to start your day, and the staff is very helpful, and will recommend places to go and trips to take. There advice is very good, so don’t think they are just trying to sell you a package, the staff is very helpful. The room and hallways are a little worn, but not too bad. The bathroom/showers are very modern, though small. The room consists of a large queen bed, a big dresser, two side tables, a small fridge, A/C, a TV, a tiny balcony and a small but modern bathroom. The Zeugma’s location is perfect, but is also one of its problems. Because it’s so well located, the street it’s on can be noisy, and the windows don’t do a good job of dampening the sounds. I highly recommend earplugs if you stay there. The noise levels drop down after about 11pm, but without earplugs, you might be woken up by the odd noise. With earplugs, you should sleep well.

The bathroom is small but modern with a great shower with lots of hot water and good pressure. The price is right for its location. We paid $80 per night. ask for a room with a balcony, the balcony is small but allows good views of the street.

I generally look primarily for location and cleanliness in selecting a hotel, and Hotel Zeugma scored high on both of these criteria. It is located near all of the major sights in the old city of Istanbul. We had an easy walk to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia and Topkapi Palace. It was a longer walk to the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market, though we could have taken public transportation. And it was quite a long jaunt to the new district, but there was plenty to see along the way. The hotel is on a street with lots of good restaurants and small shops. The room was small, as was the bathroom, but we didn't spend a lot of time there so it was just fine. And it was clean. The breakfast was very good. And the service was excellent. The front desk staff were friendly and exceptionally helpful, going beyond our expectations in helping with luggage, booking airport transfers, suggesting sights and excursions, serving us tea or coffee. One potential down side: all of the rooms are upstairs and there is no elevator. Wasn't a problem for us but it might be for some. We had a great time in Istanbul, and staying at Hotel Zeugma greatly added to our pleasure.

We felt really comfortable. Turkish hospitality. A plus is their free shuttle service. They are ready when you arrive. As we had a few pieces of luggage, I asked in advance if it was possible to take it with us. It wasn’t a problem as they just sent a bigger car to us. Quick feedback when mailed to them. I stayed here for five nights in February/March 2013. The hotel is ideally located about five minutes walk form the Blue Mosque and Sultanahmet tram station. It is an ideal base for somebody that is visiting Istanbul to explore the city or on business. The rooms are clean, warm and quiet and are equipped with everything required including air conditionong. Their was always hot water for a shower. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and very attentive to guests needs. Breakfast was your traditional Turkish breakfast. Their was plenty of everything. Overall I would recommend the Zeugma and would stay their again when I return to Istanbul.

I've stayed with my aunt and cousin at Zeugma hotel for four nights and didn't felt that we are at hotel at all, but as we were at home. We had wonderful time in Istanbul and big part of that is accommodation and Zeugma staff. Service is on a great level. They did everything to please us. Receptionist Gokhan was very helpful with inputs about transfer and sightseeing. Another receptionist, Aziz, did everything to provide us information we needed, even it was very difficult to get them and our questions were unusual. Roses and greeting card for the International Woman's Day were also a pleasant surprise. Few minutes’ walk to Blue mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Hippodrome… is another great side of staying at Zeugma. There are too many pluses so I can just say that we will stay there again. Heartfelt, I recommend to everyone.

I stayed in Zeugma hotel during four nights in mars 2013 with my sister and my mother. We were very surprised over the great service the hotel offered during our stay. The hotel offered shuttle service from or to the airport. Even though we arrived hours before our check-in time the staff offered us free breakfast. We were surprised when we entered the room and realised that we were upgraded to the suite room without asking for it. The reception staff was always helpful and ready to help with any questions, we were even offered coffee every day and had great conversations with them. The lady, Miss Hava, who sets up the breakfast, had a great personality and she treated us like her friends. At the International women day the staff had put three bouquets of flowers with postcards on our beds. I really recommend this hotel to those who are looking for clean rooms, good location in Istanbul and mostly for the kindest and most helpful staff. I will definitely go back to Zeugma hotel. /Bilgen Öz (+ Zerrin and Feride)

I travelled from the US to Istanbul with a friend last week (20 - 27 January 2013) for an impromptu winter vacation. We came across Zeugma and decided to stay there after only looking at a few hotels in the Sultanhamet area of the city. Turns out, we stumbled across a great place to stay with the friendliest staff of any hotel I have ever visited (in the States, the UK, Moscow, Rome, Venice, or Paris). It is also in a great area of the city for tourists, just blocks from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, and the Sultanhamet tram stop for easy access to the New City. The hotel staff was always ready to help with directions and tips on the local sights, the room was spacious and modern, and we enjoyed the large breakfast that was provided every morning. Mrs. Hatice, who sets up the breakfast and cleans up the rooms, was an absolute pleasure to see in the breakfast room every morning. She even went out of her way to offer to fix us omelets, on top of the copious breakfast selections that were already available. They all really made us feel at home. The hotel wasn't just a place to sleep at night, it was our home in Istanbul. We had great conversations with Mahir and Mert, wonderful breakfasts with Mrs. Hatice, and a warm feeling of "coming home" every time we came in from a day of sightseeing. I have only been home for five days and I miss them already! Will definitely be back.

I travelled with my husband and 2 teenage daughters in January 2013 and stayed in Zeugma for 5 days. Zeugma is a good place to stay due to the following reasons:- 1) Great location as it is near to all the major sites. We walked to all the the major sites including to the place where we took the Bosphorus ferry. The hotel is also surrounded by many restaurants, a grocery shop and few souvenir shops 2) Comfortable, spacious and clean rooms. Both of the 2 rooms (1 double bed and 2 single beds) are spacious where we can put our big luggage. The toilets were also clean. 3) Friendly staff and good service. Before we arrived at the hotel, Mr Maleh (the manager) has already showed and proved to us that they are reliable. Before we finalised our booking with the hotel, I have sent many queries thru emails to the hotel and Mr Maleh has responded very fast to all my emails and answered all my queries. In fact, Mr Maleh is also very considerate and flexible where he allowed us to cancel one day stay at the hotel which was paid earlier as we decided to stay 1 night in Capadoccia. He also allowed us to change the date of our airport transfer. Both Mr Maleh and Mr Maher are very helpful and even helped to carry our big and heavy luggage to our room which were located in 1st and 2nd floor. Mr Maher also helped us a lot with the directions and even helped to make coffee for us which is located in front of the counter. The hotel has no lift with spiral stairs but understand that most of the similar hotels in the area are like that. 4) Sufficient and good breakfast. The lady who makes the breakfast also helped and volunteered to make omelette for us in addition to the breakfast already available. The only problem is that the breakfast starts only at 8am so it will be difficult if we have to leave the hotel early in the morning. Perhaps the breakfast can start earlier, say, at 7.0am or 7.30am. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in Zeugma. Definitely will come back there and recommend to our friends and relatives. Good job Zeugma

We came into Istanbul exhausted from our previous excursion with little planned. We arrived and the staff was so accommodating. I was in the process of moving my sister (who had been studying abroad in Jordan) back home to the U.S. so we had a LOT of heavy luggage. The staff members greeted us with a smile and carried our bags upstairs for us without asking for any tip. We arrived to our extremely clean and fresh smelling hotel room and felt immediately at home. After getting settled in, we met with Mahir to discuss the sights and to see if he could answer a few questions for us. He made us a fresh batch of tea and circled all of the sights that we should see for our trip, including prices for all the entry fees, times the museums and mosques would be open, and told us how and where we could find metro stops. Then he waited patiently and kindly answered all of the 100 questions we had. He even helped us buy and schedule bus tickets to Cappadocia. Then found us a tour guide and hotel for our Cappadocia stay. At night, instead of going out, my sister and I often hung out at the hotel to talk to Mert and Mahir about Istanbul, their studies and the like. They had amazing inside stories about the history of the mosques and local attractions. Both are students and apparently live there and treat us all like we are guests in their own home. When my sister was sick and had a nasty cough, they went out of their way to buy her Tylol (Turkish version of Airborne) and made us tea. In the mornings there is a free breakfast on their rooftop pavilion that overlooks the streets below. The breakfast is a much larger spread than what I would expect and is wonderfully prepared. The woman who prepares it also cleans the rooms and is never without a smile or a "good morning." Please if you do stay here make an effort to get to know the staff members, we came to Istanbul knowing no one and I feel like we left making three friends. I will definitely be back in the future.

Staying at the Zeugma is a wonderful experience, everybody there is so helpful and giving. I would recommend this to anybody staying in Istanbul, it is right around the corner from the Aya Sophia and Sultan Ahmet Mosque. My girlfriend and I went during Ramadan and it was amazing. I have become friends with some of the people from the hotel and plan to remain in contact. This is where we will be staying when we come back to Istanbul for sure. good price and a wide range of services. worth every penny. We looked at other hotels and hostels prior to traveling and we were very satisfied with the zeugma after seeing them during our trip, The other hotels were not as good, they looked dirty, while Zeugma always was clean and safe for our possesions. Suggested for first time traveler or experienced traveler. English speakers, yet know the area very well. thank you for the services. GO TO THE ZEUGMA!

I stayed with my 25-year old son 6 nights there. we were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff who tried their best to make us feel as comfortably as possible. rooms was cozy and clean. there is a catch: standard double room allocated to us actually had only one queen sized bed, we forgot to say want to twin beds. so we paid an additional eur per night and moved into a 3-beds room with another queen sized bed and a smaller one. Breakfast in the hotel is excellent, choice of food is more than sufficient, but the timing could be more elastic: currently it is only between 8 and 10 am.

A recommander!

Like so many others, we chose Zeugma Hotel because of the universally positive reviews. We were not disappointed. We agree with the many positive comments others have written. Without question, Zeugma Hotel is a home away from home, in a spectacular location. Breakfast buffet is available every morning 8:00-10:30 in the terrace with a vast array of Turkish savories and sweets, fruits, jams, juices, tea, coffee. I tried something new each day. The cook will be happy to oblige personal requests, e.g., omelet. Akbiyik is a quaint, cobblestoned street lined with rows of boutique hotels with street-front restaurants as well as small markets and gift shops. If you want to visit the Sultanahmet area, the Zeugma Hotel should be your first choice.

No doubt, the hotel location is excellent! Not only it is close to the main attractions in Sultanahmet (less than 5 mins walk), but the neighborhood is also very tourist-friendly, very lively, street is wide enough, many good restaurants nearby - good for outside tea etc. The hotel itself, for me, is satisfying, they have neat rooms, nice beds, enough space, we stayed in the triple bedroom (202 & 101 if I'm not mistaken) which have balconies. And the service is very well, the 2 guys in the reception Fuat and Tayfun are very helpful, also the staff during breakfast. Mrs Nazire cleaned our room everyday. Their breakfast is ok, no complaints. The free Wifi worked well. Mr Melih the manager was very quick and informative in responding our emails. Overall, Good hotel, and I checked out as a happy customer :) I definately would stay there again.

We had an absolutely great time at Zeugma Hotel. The staff is super friendly and they tried hard to fulfill every one of our wishes. The room was a little bit small for 4 people (especially the bathroom) but therefore the location was just simply awesome. The first afternoon we where there we just "stumbled" upon the Hagia Sophia and the palace, as they are just a few minutes walk away from the hotel. There are lots of places for to eat or just have a drink really close to the hotel as well. We definitely would recommend this place for people, how don't need anything fancy but rather get right into the middle of a city.

My girlfriend and I just got back from turkey and had a fabulous time at this boutique hotel. Location couldn’t be better. This hotel is in a great spot to get to the main historical attractions. It is surrounded with small shops and cafes. It’s walking distance to the tram and bazar. Our rooms were cozy, modern, and very clean. The towels smelled like a combination of lavendar and chamomile; it was certainly an added little touch that made a huge difference for me and my friend. Breakfast was served from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m and contained a variety of delights: several types of cheeses, french bread (even whole wheat- hard to find in Turkey), simit, and some sort of pastry. There was always an assortment of fresh fruit, fruit salad, yogurt, cererals, dry fruit such as figs and apricots, jams, butter, and other spreads. The hot bar varied daily with eggs, Turkish pastrami, mushroom medley, cheese cigars, and more. Turkish coffee, apple tea, and Turkish tea rounded the breakfast menu. Breakfast lady was even sweet enough to offer us tea, coffee, or whatever we needed whenever we wished. The hotel staff was very helpful, and took time to talk about their language and culture. This hotel was like our second home. Thank you again to everyone at the Zeugma for making our trip so memorable, we will definitely be going back.

The rooms are very clean and have everything you might need. It is quiet, calm and well organised. The breakfast is wonderful - home-made, organic and fresh every morning - such delights as borek, omelettes of various types, a range of breads and cakes, eggs and the most wonderful yoghourt I have ever tasted amongst other things! All prepared by some lovely ladies. On reception are two of the nicest men you would want to meet - Tayphoon and Fuat (one for day and one for night).
